WASHINGTON

Two 15-year-old students were killed and several others victims were wounded during a mass shooting at high school in the state of Kentucky, an official confirmed Tuesday.

Governor Matt Bevin confirmed the first death occurred at Marshall County High School. The second victim died at a hospital.

Police have taken into custody a 15-year-old male student suspect who was apprehended at the scene, Bevin said. He described the suspect's apprehension as "non-violent", and said he would be charged with murder and attempted murder.

In all, 19 people are being or have been treated for injuries sustained during the attack, including 14 who are being treated for gunshot wounds.

"I beg of you again to respect the fact that these children belong to this community, and to specific families in this community, and that this is a wound that is going to take a long time to heal," Bevin said in an emotional plea. "Please respect these families."

Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are on the scene to assist first responders, the agency tweeted.

This is a developing story.
