ISTANBUL
Barcelona edged Real Sociedad 1-0 to top the Spanish La Liga on Saturday.
In week 27, superstar Lionel Messi scored the lone goal on a late penalty shot in the minute 81.
Barcelona went two points ahead of Real Madrid.
The club tops the league with 58 points in 27 games. Real Madrid is in the second with 56 points in 26 games and will face Real Betis on Sunday.
Zinedine Zidane's side may regain the top spot with a win against Real Betis.
On last Sunday, Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-0 in the famous El Clasico showdown at Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
