PKK terrorist killed in Turkish security operation

ISTANBUL

Turkish security forces have killed one PKK terrorist in southeastern Turkey's Siirt province, the regional governor's office said on Wednesday.

The anti-terror operation took place in the province's Yedi Kardesler and Zimelan regions, Siirt Governor's Office said in a statement.

Security forces took action after PKK terrorists detonated a roadside bomb on Saturday as a military vehicle was passing by in the Sirvan district’s Ucyol region.

Seven Turkish soldiers were hurt, two seriously, in the PKK attack.

Separately, in Tunceli province, a courier who was delivering food to a group of terrorists was caught in the crossfire between security forces and PKK members and killed, Tunceli Governor's Office said in a statement.

Another courier and two PKK terrorists escaped, the statement added.

More than 1,200 people, including security force personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July 2015.
