An aid worker from the NGO Hydraulique sans Frontieres (HYFRO) who was abducted on Saturday by gunmen in the Democratic Rupublic of Congo has been freed, a security official told Anadolu Agency.

Lt. Savio Abuga said: "The humanitarian worker from the NGO called Hydraulique sans Frontieres (HYFRO), who was abducted with his two colleagues on Saturday in Mushikiri village has been set free by the gunmen.''

The two humanitarian workers with whom he was abducted were killed on Saturday.

He said that the freed humanitarian worker sustained injuries after being tortured by the gunmen who abducted him and he has been admitted to a hospital.

The head of Hydraulique sans Frontieres Richard Kahindo said in a statement that the worker was freed but had sustained several cuts to his face.

The UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on Tuesday condemned the killing and abducting of the humanitarian workers.
